A girls basketball coach at Memorial High School in West New York has been charged with walking in on girls in the locker room and sending inappropriate text messages to three students, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. A preliminary investigation found Ariel Alava, 41, of West New York, entered the girls' locker room following a game in Jersey City on Jan. 27, 2022, the prosecutor said. Two 15-year-old girls who attend Memorial and 17-year-old former student also reported receiving inappropriate messages on social media from Alava on various dates between August and October 2022.
